GRUMBLE VS GRATITUDE
I recently had a conversation with a friend of mine regarding the half empty- half full glass scenario.
One would realize that the individual most likely to complain and fall into pessimism, would be the one who sees it as half empty. Why you would ask? Because his focus is on what is missing rather than that which exists.
On the other hand, the one who sees it as half full, has an acknowledgement of something present in the glass.
This is a simple but basic foundation of viewpoints that either catapult an individual into gratitude or complaining.
Notice that Jesus gave thanks before the miracle of multiplying bread.
John 6:11-12 Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted. After everyone was full, Jesus told his disciples, "Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted."
And before raising Lazarus from the dead
John 11:41-44 So they rolled the stone aside. Then Jesus looked up to heaven and said, "Father, thank you for hearing me. You always hear me, but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here, so that they will believe you sent me." Then Jesus shouted, "Lazarus, come out!" And the dead man came out, his hands and feet bound in grave clothes, his face wrapped in a head cloth. Jesus told them, "Unwrap him and let him go!"
When we carefully study the 40years of the wilderness experience of Israel, we realize that their grumbling costed them a promised land and ultimately, death.
Numbers 11:1-3 Soon the people began to complain about their hardship, and the Lord heard everything they said. Then the Lord's anger blazed against them, and he sent a fire to rage among them, and he destroyed some of the people in the outskirts of the camp. Then the people screamed to Moses for help, and when he prayed to the Lord, the fire stopped. After that, the area was known as Taberah (which means "the place of burning"), because fire from the Lord had burned among them there.
1 Corinthians 10:10-11 And don't grumble as some of them
did, and then were destroyed by the angel of death. These things
happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us
who live at the end of the age.
Gratitude shows our appreciation to God for what we have and makes room for us to receive more. Complaining and grumbling only reveal a deeper root of unbelief, and a willfully ignorance of the good things we already have.
As a musician once sung, 'always look at the bright side of life.'
Gratitude will help you pave way to a lifestyle of the miraculous.
